South Carolina Certified Roadside Market

Three Sisters Essentials is proud to be a certified roadside market with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. According to the SC Agriculture website, "The South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s Certified Roadside Market Program was established in 1972, the first official roadside market program in the state. Because they must meet certain standards, we are confident that the roadside markets in the program are reputable and offer a good supply of South Carolina farm products. South Carolina farmers are constantly looking for new ways to market their products and make their farms more profitable. At the same time, they want others to take an interest in the origin of their food and in those who spend their lifetime producing it."

Three Sisters Essentials partners with South Carolina farmers, crafters and artisans to provide the very best to our local community. We hope you'll stop by to experience these incredible offerings made possible by our neighbors --- locals supporting locals!

Hi Friends! We founded Three Sisters Essentials after years of dreaming of a way to bring our love of nature and sustainable living into a market format in our beloved hometown of Camden, South Carolina. Being the fourth generation of a large family, we were inspired by summers of shelling butterbeans and shucking corn under the oak canopy in our grandparents’ front yard - hence, the tree in our logo! After earning our keep helping with the vegetables, we were rewarded with a day on Lake Wateree fishing, tubing, skiing, and countless half-bags of potato chips --- please ask us about this story haha! These days instilled our love of the outdoors and were the cornerstone of our childhood.

Those sweet memories were brought back to life when we became South Carolina Master Naturalists, thereby continuing our journey to learn more about all the cool things we see in nature, why they are here and how they all work together. Being a Master Naturalist is about citizen science and sharing knowledge with others in a relatable and beneficial way, while also having fun in nature! This brought about the idea of helping others learn about sustainable living practices in our own community.

Spring Nature Hike at Forty Acre Rock

Spring Hike

We hope you can join us on Saturday, April 8th at 9:00 am for our Sprimg Forty Acre Rock hike!

As an accompanying hike to our inaugural 3SE Adventures Fall Hike this past November, we are offering this free guided hike to experience one of the most unique Heritage Preserves in the state, featuring the majesty of the granite outcrop, pine and bottomland hardwood forests, waterfalls, caves, an awesome beaver pond and so much more. While the granite outcrop itself is approximately 14 acres, the Preserve is about 2,965 acres and serves as the perfect example of where the Sandhills and Piedmont regions of the state meet. The diversity of plants and wildlife is second to none, and folks travel far and wide to experience the Preserve’s incredible array of wildflowers such as the federally endangered Pool Sprite, Elf Orpine, Blood Root, Trillium, Green Dragons, Jack-in-the-Pulpits, Trout Lilies, Little Brown Jugs, and so, so much more!

The plan for the day is to meet at Three Sisters Essentials at 9:00 am, then caravan about 32 miles north to Kershaw. We will make one stop at the gas station closest to the Preserve for a restroom break, and then head to the lower parking lot of the Preserve to start our hike. There will be a lunch break, and we ask participants to bring a bag lunch, plenty of water and snacks, plus sunscreen and other necessities for a day in nature. With plenty of time to explore this beautiful place, we anticipate closing the day between 2:00 – 3:00 pm. *For those who would like to join us, we have a tradition of stopping by Creighton’s Creamery in Kershaw on the way home for the best ice cream on the planet!

PLEASE NOTE: This is a Moderate-rated hike, and we anticipate walking several miles over the course of the day. There are no restrooms at the Preserve, but plenty of pink and blue bushes (haha)! Each participant will be required to sign a Hiking Liability Waiver.
